My thoughts On The Patriots New FA Signings

Hell has frozen over, Bill Belicheck has opened up his checkbook and spent to make this New England Patriots team, potentially better than they were in 2020. Now is where I come in, I’m here to give my thoughts on how I feel about the signings that Bill Belicheck has done.

Henry Anderson DT, 2 years $7 million deal

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this deal, it’s a simple cheap contract that will help the Patriots in a position that can rush a QB to get a sack. Now, that’s something the Patriots struggled with in 2020, ranking 27th in the NFL for sacks, which if you’re that low you aren’t doing it right. Now with Anderson, I think he’ll fit well in the 3-4 based fronts that it appears New England wants to run in 2021. Now it’s up to Anderson to come into New England and simply put, do his job.

Montravius Adams DT, 1 year $2.5 million deal

Same as Anderson, I don’t know a whole lot about Adams. What I do know is that he’s a whole lot of man, standing at 6’4 and weighing in at 305 Lbs hes a big guy who like Anderson will come in and help with both getting to the QB and stuffing the run game of the opposing offensive which was a problem with New England for well all of last season. Like Anderson, if Adams comes in and does his job, I’ll be satisfied.

Nelson Agholor WR, 2 years $26 million deal

Now at first I was happy to see Bill looking to improve the WR room. Agholor’s deal is like a double edged sword, year 1 is fine when it comes to his cap hit which is only $7 million. Year 2 is where it gets iffy as of now where he’ll have a cap hit of $15 million and a dead cap hit of $10 million if cut or traded. I only mention these because we don’t know which version of Agholor we’ll be getting. Now I hope it’s the 2020 version where he racked up 897 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns, and not the 2019 version who had a lot of issues with dropping catches and was ultimately run out of town by the boisterous Eagles faithful.

Raekwon McMillian LB, contract TBD

Who doesn’t like some LB depth. That is what Raekwon will provide the Patriots with in 2021, now I’m not expecting crazy things from Raekwon in 2021, but he definitely has the potential to be a force and cause chaos on the defensive side of the football when called upon in the 2021 season, much similar to the role one Elandon Roberts played during his tenure in New England before leaving for the Miami Dolphins after the 2019 season. Now once again all i ask is that if Raekwon can come in and do his job, I’ll be happy.

Davon Godchaux NT, 2 years $16 million

Davon is exactly what New England was missing in 2020, a solid big guy who can stuff the run. Davon is a fresh addition to a New England D that’ll for sure want to cause havoc and chaos in 2021. Davon definitely unlike the other two DT signings will definitely be expected to carry the workload at DT, especially with the departure of Adam Butler to Miami. Now his cap hit of only $4 million this year isn’t bad and he’s the kind of guy that New Englan needs. I’ve said this alot but Do Your Job Davon and I’ll be happy.

Kendrick Bourne WR, 3 years $15 million

Again Bill clearly saw we needed upgrades at WR and what’s better than one new WR, well that’s simple two new WR’s. Kenrdick is a skilled and versatile WR who will help take the workload off of Jakobi Meyers who if we’re being honest here isn’t a WR1. Between Bourne and Agholor, New England should definitely see improvements at the WR position in 2021, plus it gives Cam Newton more options to work with.

Ted Karras C, 1 year $4 million

Ted at first was looking like he’d be the new starting centre for the New England Patriots in 2021, however he now becomes a 4 million dollar insurance policy with the resigning of David Andrews. Karras now unfortunately will become a rotation piece in the New England offensive line, where he could fill in at centre or guard if need be, but let’s hope that’s not a thing we need. That’s not a knock against Karras just we need this offensive line to stay healthy all season if we want a shot at the playoffs.

Matthew Judon OLB, 4 years $56 million

The Patriots struggled at all spots of the front 7 in 2020, with opt outs and players leaving in FA, Bill knew he needed a new fresh face at the Linebacker position. Enter Matthew Judon, the 6’3 linebacker is someone Bill is sure to love, he can play all over the field and he is a force who can definitely get to the quarterback. In his last two seasons alone, Judon accounted for 15.5 sacks, now that’s obviously DPOY numbers but it’s a welcome addition I along with many other Patriots fans are sure to love.

Kyle Van Noy LB, 2 years $13.2 million

He’s back, that right folks Kyle Van Noy is back in a Patriots uniform and I couldn’t be more excited. Kyle’s presence was missed greatly in 2020, on and off the field. He’s a guy who can cause chaos on the field all while being a leader off of the field also. Could this be the potential makings of a reunion of the Boogeyman defense that we saw in 2019? Well this Patriots fan sure hopes so.

Jaelen Mills SS, 4 years $24 million

At first the signing of Mills was fine but didn’t make all that much sense to me. But a few days later, Patrick Chung retired from the NFL. So the signing of Mills made more sense and his role along with second year safety Kyle Duggar became that much more important. I expect Mills to play Safety for the most part but the biggest pro to him is that he can play either Corner or Safety. But I expect him to fill in where Patrick Chung would’ve played in 2021 if he decided to not retire.

Jonnu Smith TE, 4 years $50 million

The TE position is something the Patriots have been trying to replace since Rob Gronkowski left the team after the 2018 season. Now I know Jonnu won’t come in and be Gronk, but he’s someone who can come in and be versatile in an offense that desperately has needed help at the TE position the last two seasons. Expect alot of two tight end sets in 2021 and the return of the Boston TE Party, something I’ll go into more with the last player.

Hunter Henry TE, 3 years $37.5 million

With the signing of Jonnu Smith, I believed that the Patriots were for sure out of the Henry Henry sweepstakes. But on Tuesday March 16th, things changed and bam Hunter Henry was signed by the Patriots, thus The Boston TE Party is back. Henry is one of the top TE’s in the NFL and now he’s a New England Patriot. He can help make the receivers more open and help with the run game.

My Favorite Prospect

By: Griff Bordignon

The 2022 NFL Draft is not like the 2021 draft and that’s mainly due to the lack of marquee quarterback talent. However this draft is still loaded with franchise changing talent and players that come in and quickly make an impact and one of those players I absolutely adore. That player who you may be wondering about is Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the same Aidan Hutchinson who was named first team all Big 10, unanimous All American and was named the MVP of the Big 10 Championship this past December. When it comes to the draft as a whole, there is no way he escapes the top three in this year’s draft and for the team picking number two it’ll be hard to pass on him. That team just happens to be Hutchinson’s hometown Detroit Lions, the two will be a match made in heaven in my opinion. Hutchinson is a 6’6 265 Lbs that I’m certain Dan Campbell would welcome with open arms into the Lions locker room.

While at Michigan, Hutchinson racked up quite the four year legacy, recording 81 tackles and 18.5 sacks, including 14.5 of those coming in his senior year alone. His play was a big reason Michigan were able to finally slay the dragon to Michigan that was the Ohio State and then a week later, in Indianapolis Michigan would route Iowa 45-3 in the Big 10 Championship in which Hutchinson was named MVP as I mentioned earlier in the article. Honestly, the main reasons why I like this kid because even tho hes born in 2000 he bigger, taller, faster and 100% if we were side by side he’d look older than me, it’s simply the pure athleticism and his ability to cause havoc to any offensive lineman and quarterback in the Big 10 which I think will translate well to the NFL in 2022.

He’s got something that Detriots lacking and I only saw Detroit at two to take him because I’m in the belief that Oregon Defensive End Kayvon Thibodeaux will go number 1 to Jacksonville and for as good as Thibodeaux is and this by no means is a knock on him, I just think Hutchinson is the better player and has already the potential to win NFLs Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022. Lost in all of this and I’m kicking myself for not mentioning this earlier is the fact that Hutchinson finished in second place in Heisman voting, losing to Alabama QB Bryce Young who had a fantastic sophomore season with the Crimson Tide. The other impressive accolade was making it to the College Football Playoff Semi Final, something only 4 of the best programs in the country get to do, and even though they lost 34-11 to the eventual National Champions Georgia, the season as a whole was a success for Hutchinson and nothing to scoff at. Long story short, I’m a fan of this man because when you look at him you don’t see a kid, you see a man and one who’s about to pave a great path for himself in the NFL for years to come.

Griff’s 2021 NFL Mock Draft Version 2.0

Now, I’m not a draft expert or anything, but I’m back for my second NFL mock draft of this offseason. Now without further adieu here we go.

Number 1, Jacksonville: Trevor Lawerence, QB Clemson

No changes here, Lawrence is and always has been the consistent number 1 pick. He’s going to come into Jacksonville and establish himself as a NFL starting QB, he’s got the skills, looks and desire to win, the total package if you will.

Number 2, New York Jets: Zach Wilson, QB Brigham Young

Now that the Jets have traded Sam Darnold, It’s official that Zach Wilson is the guy in New York. He’s an NFL ready QB whose stock rose greatly during the 2020 CFB season, throwing for an impressive 33TDs and only 3INTs.

Number 3, San Francisco 49ers (From Miami, Via Houston): Mac Jones, QB Alabama

San Francisco has pushed all of their chips to the middle of the table after their trade with Miami. Now I know they could go Fields or Lance, but Mac Jones seems like the prototypical Kyle Shanahan QB, like what Kirk Cousins or Matt Ryan, who Shanahan had success with in both Washington and Atlanta.

Number 4, Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Pitts, TE Florida

With a new coach in Arthur Smith coming to town and a restructured Matt Ryan, this move makes complete sense to me. Atlanta is already loaded with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, adding in Kyle Pitts makes this offense better and gives Matt Ryan his best TE since Tony Gonzalez.

Number 5, Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase, WR Louisiana State

I originally had Sewell going to Cincinnati, but after Riley Reiff signed with Cincinnati and Burrow potentially wanting to reunite with his college WR at LSU, this seems like a match made in heaven. Chase is a physical WR who can burn you in an instance and would make for a great addition to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Number 6, Miami Dolphins (Via Philadelphia) : Jaylen Waddle, WR Alabama

Miami were the big winners of both of their trades with San Fran and Philly. They’ll still be able to grab Waddle with the 6th pick, I had them getting Waddle at 3 in my first mock. Waddle is a fast receiver who will help solidify the Miami offence for years to come and add to the likes of Parker and newcomer via free agency Will Fuller.

Number 7, Detroit Lions: Penei Sewell, T Oregon

Since my first mock draft I’ve had Penei fall a little bit, however this is where the falling stops. Detroit is a team who’s never had a solid O Line now Penei helps with that, he’s not going to make Detroit’s O Line top five in the league but he’s physical enough to where Dan Campbell will love him and he’ll help protect Jared Goff in 2021.

Number 8, Carolina Panthers: DeVonta Smith, WR Alabama

After adding Sam Darnold to the QB Room in Carolina, we know the Panthers won’t be drafting a QB. So why not add the latest Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. He’ll bolster their receiver room. With guys like DJ Moore and Robby Anderson already established speedsters in the NFL, DeVonta will only add speed to an already speedy WR room and help spread out the offence with a returning and healthy Christian McCaffery.

Number 9, Denver Broncos: Trey Lance, QB North Dakota State

As many of you know by now I’m not sold on Drew Lock at QB. Bringing in Trey Lance will do one of two things in my opinion. It can either light a fire under both QB’s in camp to truly find out who will start for Denver come September or Trey Lance outshines Drew Lock who could be dealt before the season starts.

Number 10, New England Patriots (Via Dallas): Justin Fields, QB Ohio State

After the Patriots not only signed Cam Newton to another 1 year deal, they also spent big $$ to potentially get back into the AFC Playoff picture. This is a New ENgland team who wants to finish above .500 ASAP. Justin Fields comes into the mix because this Patriots fan believes that having him sit behind Cam for a year won’t hurt him at all,  It’ll help him. Fields is an athletic QB who can fit into the New England offensive scheme perfectly and can eventually take the torch from Cam and be the true successor in the post Tom Brady Era.

Number 11, New York Giants: Rashawn Slater, T Northwestern

The Giants are another team who spent big this offseason to add KEnny Golloday and Addoree Jackson. However they still have an awful bottom five offensive line and without making improvements in the draft, nothing will change for Big Blue. Slater can come in and sure up the Tackle position, and give owner John Mara more confidence in his team and management as he has clearly stated that he wants to win sooner than later.

Number 12, Philadelphia Eagles (Via Miami): Micah Parsons, LB Penn State

My opinion of Micah Parsons hasn’t changed. He’s a freak off of the ball and would help the Eagles defense out who aren’t getting any younger. I know the Eagles need receiving and other offensive help but this is a draft filled with those kinds of players. This mock drafter is saying get the highly touted Linebacker now instead of later.

Number 13, Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, T Virginia Tech

LA has already bolstered their offensive line greatly in free agency by adding COrey Linsley and Matt Feiler, Darrisaw in my opinion will only help solidify this offensive line and help Justin Herbert and co fly offensively. Darrisaw was  a good tackle at Virginia Tech, who can move any defender around with ease and precision. He also had the second highest grade for any tackle from a power 5 school as well.

Number 14, Minnesota Vikings: Kwity Paye, DE  Michigan

The Vikings defence for a while has always been average, not the best but certainly not the worst defence in the NFL. Kwity can come in and be a force off of the edge for a Vikings defensive who’s looking to bounce back after a sub par 7-9 2020 season. It’s also an odd numbered year so Kwity could probably see the playoffs the way the VIkings like to play.

Number 15, Dallas Cowboys (Via New England): Patrick Surtain II, CB Alabama

The Dallas Cowboys trade back with New England who I think will move up and grab Fields. Now onto Dallas, they get Surtain, a Corner who’s a true ballhawk and comes from the best college program in the country Alabama. He’ll fit into Dallas’s new defensive schemes that I expect Dan Quinn to implement that has already added the likes of Keanu Neal at Safety.

Number 16, Arizona Cardinals: Christian Barmore, DT Alabama

Arizona has already added JJ Watt to their defence this offseason in hopes of making it back to the postseason for the first time since 2015. Now a force of nature like BArmore can come in and add some disruption to the likes of Watt and a returning from injury Chandler Jones. Barmore was a force at Alabama whose skills I think can work well under the kind of defence that Vance Joseph runs in the desert.

Number 17, Las Vegas Raiders: Walker Little, T Stanford

The Raiders have purged most of their offensive line and are in need of some help on the line if they want to potentially make a playoff push and keep Derek Carr on his feet. Walker Little comes in and helps fill in the void at tackle plus between him and Kolten Miller, it can potentially be the start of something big in Las Vegas.

Number 18, Miami Dolphins: Teven Jenkins, T Oklahoma State

Jenkins plays like a full grown man, that’s because he is. Jenkins was great on the Cowboys O line in 2020 only allowing 4 pressures on 211 snaps. This is something Miami would benefit from having as they have a younger developing O line and Jenkins will only help fill in and solidify the tackle position.

Number 19, Washington Football Team: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB Notre Dame

If one thing was clear about the 2020 Washington Football Team, it was they had an unreal defence.  Owusu-Koramoah, can help bolster an already stacked Washington defense, coming off a Butkus award winning season in 2020, his weight is his only issue where he weighs in at 215 Lbs. Now that may be shocking to some at first but, Colts LB Darius Leonard plays at the same weight, so we shall wait and see.

Number 20, Chicago Bears: Rashod Bateman, WR Minnesota

Chicago is a team who needs the offensive help at a lot of positions, and with Bateman falling in my latest mock draft, I feel like him to Chicago is a good fit. He’s a route runner and a very skilled wide receiver, which he put on display for three years at the University of Minnesota. He can help bolster the receiver room which already includes Allen Robinson and second year receiver Darnell Mooney.

Number 21, Indianapolis Colts: Greg Newsome II, CB Northwestern

Newsome II had a solid 2020 shortened season for Northwestern in which he accounted for 12 tackles, one interception, team-high 10 pass breakups, which earned him third time All American honours. He’s a slimmer cornerback so he may have to add some muscle but he’s a well-versed in Cover 3, quarters coverage and press man

Number 22, Tennessee Titans: Jaycee Horn, CB South Carolina

Tennessee’s defense last year wasn’t ideal and Jaycee can come in and help the Tennessee secondary along with newcomer Janoris Jenkins. He’s an athletic corner who played with an NFL mindset at South Carolina. He’s not afraid to back down from any challenge. Jaycee also only allowed 116 receiving yards in 2020, which is something NFL teams should take notice of.

Number 23, New York Jets (via Seattle): Jayson Oweh, DE Penn State

The New York Jets defense under new head coach Robert Salah is supposed to be All Gas and No Breaks montra. Oweh will help with that, he can help bolster a defensive line for New York that in recent years hasn’t been anything special. Plus the addition of Carl Lawson, this combo could be quite disruptive for Gang Green.

Number 24, Pittsburgh Steelers: Dillion Radunz, T North Dakota State

The Steelers lost quite a lot of offensive lineman this offseason and Radunz can help fill some voids that have been left by all of the non returning lineman. Randuz has all the positive attributes you want from an NFL tackle, however he needs to become more of a drive blocker if he truly wants to succeed at the NFL level.

Number 25, Jacksonville Jaguars (via LA Rams): Trevon Moehrig, S Texas Christian

Jacksonville probably wants to get their defence back to 2017 form, and a safety like Moehrig can help with that as Jacksonville looks to rebuild their team as a whole. Trevon has the physical tools to be a great safety and he displayed those at TCU, where in each of his last two seasons at TCU he led all college safeties in pass breakups, which is something the Jaguars would be glad to add to their team.

Number 26, Cleveland Browns: Azeez Ojulari, DE Georgia

The Cleveland Browns are a good football team now, however they still need help defensively, adding someone like Azeez can do just that. He has pure speed that can get around the top lineman in the country. He gets brownie points from me as well because coming from the SEC that’s not an easy task. Azeez can also help bolster a Browns defensive line that already includes Myles Garrett.

Number 27, Baltimore Ravens: Elijah Moore, WR Ole Miss

Moore was the main focus of Lane Kiffin’s offense at Ole Miss in 2020, in only 8 games he managed to rack up 1,193 yards. Now Moore is something that the Baltimore Ravens need to add, they’ve struggled with the Wide Receiver position since Lamar Jackson has been the start but with the addition of Sammy Watkins and the hopeful improvement of Hollywood Brown, Moore would only help Baltimore.

Number 28, New Orleans Saints: Caleb Farley, CB Virginia Tech

Farleys stock has dropped for the draft because of a back injury, but I feel like he can be a steal of a pick potentially when it comes to Cornerbacks for the 2021 draft. He also has the size at 6’2 and speed to be a good corner in this league and can help with a New Orleans defense who lost Janoris Jenkins in the backfield after the 2020 season.

Number 29, Green Bay Packers: Terrace Marshall Jr, WR Louisiana State

Terrace Marshall is a receiver with a lot of upside, who was known as “The Other Guy” in the historic 2019 championship LSU Tiger team. Which being the other guy in Green Bay wouldn’t be the worst thing for Marshall under star receiver Devante Adams.

Number 30, Buffalo Bills: Jaelan Phillips, DE Miami

Buffalo is a team who’s as close to a complete team as you can get. However they still need to add to a couple of positions to sure up the team and defensive edge is one of them. Enter Jaelan Phillips, I have them adding Jaelan Phillips, a DE who actually retired from the game in 2018, however since returning from retirement he’s been a good player for Miami and his skill set can transfer to a Bills team itching for a true pass rusher.

Number 31, Kansas City Chiefs: Alijah Vera-Tucker, T Southern California

The Chiefs have already added the likes of Joe Thuney and Kyle Long to the mix, but Vera-Tucker in a depth role and maybe starter role for the Chiefs isn’t a bad idea to me. If the Super Bowl, which its very likely they’ll be back, not having solid O line depth can kill you, so it only makes sense to add Vera-Tucker

Number 32, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kellen Mond, QB Texas A&M

Closing out the first round is the champs. I have them adding Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond. Now obviously the Goat isn’t going anywhere, however thinking about the future of the team isn’t a bad move either. Have Mond study for a year or two under Tom Brady then if Tom Brady decides to retire after this year or the 2022 season, the Buccaneers already have their successor in place.

Griff’s 2021 NFL Mock Draft Version 1.0

Now, I’m not a draft expert or anything but I am someone who thought it would be cool to say what I think can happen during Round 1 of the NFL Draft, thanks to the Pro Football Focus Simulator it helps make this process a lot easier. Now without further adieu here we go.

Number 1, Jacksonville: Trevor Lawerence, QB Clemson

This pick seems like a no brainer right? Well that’s because it is, Trevor is the most highly touted draft prospect since Andrew Luck was coming out of Stanford 9 years ago. Trevor can help build a winning culture in Jacksonville, something that city has been dying for and who better to bring that mentality to Jacksonville than the man who won the National Championship as a freshman.

Number 2, New York Jets: Zach Wilson, QB BYU

With the relationship between Sam Darnold and the Jets in doubt, plus a new head coach in Robert Salah, it only makes sense for the Jets to make a move and bring in a fresh face at the QB position. Wilson had a breakout 2020 for the Cougars throwing for 33TDs and only 3INTs. He’s also sure to bring promise to Jets fans who have been longing for a franchise QB, something that they haven’t had since Broadway Joe Nameth.

Number 3, Miami Dolphins (Via Houston): Jaylen Waddle, WR Alabama

My first hot take draft choice if you will. Waddle is a proven freak and owns multiple Alabama receiving records, and can be a player in the NFL. Obviously they can do with Smith here but his frame worries me as the NFL is different from college, but I like the potential of a Tua Waddle connection making noise in South Florida.

Number 4, Atlanta Falcons: Justin Fields, QB Ohio State

With a new coach in Arthur Smith coming to town and an aging Matt Ryan, this move makes perfect sense to me. Ryan is aging and does not have the best cap number. Fields can red shirt 2021 and then take over as starter in 2022. I mean, it worked for that Mahomes guy, now I’m not saying Fields is the next Mahomes, but sitting your rookie year isn’t the worst thing in the world for the Ohio State QB.

Number 5, Cincinnati Bengals: Penei Sewell, T Oregon

The next no brainer pick, get Joe Burrow some damn protection, Sewell is a vicious tackle who can pass block very well and someone who can make sure Burrow isn’t running for his life from guys like TJ Watt and Myles Garrett. Now Sewell did opt out of the 2020 season but I think he’ll be a great NFL tackle.

Number 6, Philadelphia Eagles: Ja’Marr Chase, WR LSU

Now here’s a pick that makes sense, The Eagles have not done well drafting wide receivers in the past, but here is a chance to make up for past mistakes. Chase is an electric Wide Receiver who was a part of one of the greatest passing attacks in college football history. The Eagles can start this rebuild properly with the edition of Chase.

Number 7, Detroit Lions: Micah Parsons, LB Penn State

Micah Parsons did opt out of the 2020 season, but in 2019 Parsons was a freak, He would help bolster a Lions D who needs any help that can get at the moment. He can get off of the ball quick and is always a threat to blitz the QB.

Number 8, Carolina Panthers: Trey Lance, QB NDSU

Carolina has made it clear that Bridgewater isn’t the guy. David Tepper has made it clear that he wants a franchise QB, and I think Trey Lance is that guy. He only played once in 2020 but he has a lot of tangibles that can make him a great QB in this league.

Number 9, Denver Broncos: Caleb Farley, CB Virginia Tech

The first high profile player to opt out of the 2020 season. Caleb still had a 26.8 passer rating according to Pro Football Focus, he also has the size at 6’2 and speed to be a good corner in this league. Denver also needs help in his secondary to add to an already impressive D that was without Von Miller in 2020.

Number 10, Dallas Cowboys: Christian Barmore, DT Alabama

Dallas desperately needs defensive players and Barmore can help with that, his 2020 season didn’t get off to the best start, but once he found his groove he was off to the races helping Alabama secure yet another National Championship. Jerry Jones should keep close eyes on Barmore.

Number 11, New York Giants: DeVonta Smith, WR Alabama

Back to back Alabama players here, Smith can help bolster the Giants receiving core that was lacking a star since OBJ left. He just needs to get bigger if he wants to be a long term NFL star in my opinion because he will be going up against guys who are ready to hit you at full speed.

Number 12, San Francisco 49ers: Patrick Surtain II, CB Alabama

Roll Tide 10-12, Surtain can come in and fill the void that’ll be left because as I write this, I assume Sherman won’t be a 49er in 2021. With a guy like Surtain, you won’t find a better combination of size, length and technique in the draft.

Number 13, Los Angeles Chargers: Kwity Paye, DE Michigan

Now, Kwity wasn’t a standout at Michigan but he’s someone who can come into the NFL and have an instant impact, LA is a team who with a defensive adjustment especially under Brandon Staley can potentially make some noise in the AFC West.

Number 14, Minnesota Vikings: Kyle Pitts, TE  Florida

Kyle is one of the best players in the draft, now I’ll be honest putting him at 14 hurts but Minnesota just cut longtime TE Kyle Rudolph and Pitts would be a perfect replacement to go alongside Irv Smith, plus Pitts with Jefferson and Thielen sounds pretty deadly to me.

Number 15, New England Patriots: Rashod Bateman, WR Minnesota

The Patriots need to upgrade their receiver room badly, now Bateman isn’t the best receiver on the board but he is one hell of a route runner and can beat you with his size off of the line of scrimmage. Bateman led the country in yards per route run from an outside alignment as a sophomore in 2019.

Number 16, Arizona Cardinals: Rashawn Slater, T Northwestern

Another 2020 opt out, but with the addition of JJ Watt the Cardinals D is looking good. Their O Line needs an upgrade badly and Slater can help protect Kyler Murray, in 2019 he only allowed 5 pressures which is very impressive and something former O lineman GM Steve Keim shouldn’t overlook.

Number 17, Las Vegas Raiders: Jayson Oweh, DE Penn State

The Raiders badly need help on the defensive side of the ball, so Raiders fans let me introduce you to Jayson Oweh, a man who can run a 4.3 speed, He can play both side of the edge with ease and with Maxx Crosby could help create a great pass rush threat for an Las Vegas D Gus Bradley is looking to revitalize in 2021.

Number 18, Miami Dolphins: Christian Darrisaw, T Virginia Tech

Miami needs a new tackle to come in and help set the tempo and protect Tua. Darrisaw fits that description to a T. Darrisaw is the kind of guy who in a breakout 2020 established that getting by him won’t be easy, but he’ll move you around with ease and precision. He also had the second highest grade for any tackle from a power 5 school as well.

Number 19, Washington Football Team: Mac Jones, QB Alabama

With Alex Smith surely on his way out, Mac can come in and be the franchise QB for a Washington team. Mac is the kind of guy who came into the 2020 season not knowing if he’ll start but he led the Tide to a National Championship. Mac can make you go “wow” with any throw or play and his command of the QB position is impressive.

Number 20, Chicago Bears: Alijah Vera-Tucker, T USC

Chicago is a team who needs the offensive help at a lot of positions, but in my opinion drafting a tackle at 20 is a good move for the team. Now, I know they need a QB but you need someone to protect the QB and Vera- Tucker is the guy for them. He’s the guy who can pass protect well and he can make space for Cohen or Montgomery to make those explosive plays.

Number 21, Indianapolis Colts: Gregory Rousseau, DE Miami

Gregory is a DE who could go top 5. Unfortunately, I don’t think he will, he only has a year of college ball under his belt and he opted out in 2020. From what we’ve seen he has the tools to be a successful DE in the NFL. His absurd length and versatility will be a selling point for teams, This is where I think him along with Buckner makes the Colts an even better defence.

Number 22, Tennessee Titans: Azeez Ojulari, DE Georgia

Talk about drafting for need. The Titans couldn’t get after the QB at all in 2020 and Azeez can do just that. He has pure speed that can get around the top lineman in the country. He gets brownie points from me as well because coming from the SEC that’s not an easy task. Azeez can also help bolster a Titans DL that needs improvements if they want to continue to be AFC contenders.

Number 23, New York Jets (via Seattle): Jaycee Horn, CB South Carolina

The New York Jets secondary needs help and Horn provides that. He’s an athletic corner who played with an NFL mindset at South Carolina. He’s not afraid to back down from any challenge, something I think Robert Salah would love in a player and he only allowed 116 receiving yards in 2020, which is something NFL teams should take notice of.

Number 24, Pittsburgh Steelers: Trevon Moehrig, S TCU

Trevon would help complete a Pittsburgh secondary that’s a part of one of the league’s best defenses. Trevon has the physical tools to be a great safety and he displayed those at TCU, where in each of his last two seasons at TCU he led all college safeties in pass breakups, which is something the Steelers would be happy to add onto.

Number 25, Jacksonville Jaguars (via LA Rams): Nick Bolton, LB Missouri

Jacksonville probably wants to get their defence back to 2017 form. Bolton helps with that, he doesn’t check off every box when it comes to physicality but he’s the guy that you want alongside Myles Jack. He led the SEC in defensive stops in the last two seasons, in which he went up against some of the most elite talent in the country.

Number 26, Cleveland Browns: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB Notre Dame

If one thing was clear about the 2020 Cleveland Browns, it was they need defence.  Owusu-Koramoah, can help with that, coming off a Butkus award winning season in 2020, his weight is his only issue where he weighs in at 215 Lbs. Now that may be shocking to some at first but, Colts LB Darius Leonard plays at the same weight, so we shall wait and see.

Number 27, Baltimore Ravens: Rondale Moore, WR Purdue

The Ravens need to get Lamar some damn weapons. Moore established himself at Purdue as a slot receiver but never got to show what he can do as an outside receiver, something I’m sure Greg Roman would welcome. It’s also worth noting that Moore as a freshman in 2018 led all receivers in broken tackles as a freshman.

Number 28, New Orleans Saints: Asante Samuel Jr, CB Florida State

Not a lot to say about Samuel, whose dad won 2 superbowls with the Patriots, but he is a smooth athlete who can come into the NFL and help a Saints secondary who at times last year could be good and then very bad during the next play. Samuel Jr only allowed 179 receiving yards this past season which Dennis Allen probably will smile at if his name is called on draft night to New Orleans.

Number 29, Green Bay Packers: Elijah Moore, WR Ole Miss

Moore was the main focus of Lane Kiffin’s offense at Ole Miss in 2020, in only 8 games he managed to rack up 1,193 yards. Now Moore is something Green Bay fans have been yelling for, help for Davante Adams. Moore can be perfect in that role for Green Bay in 2021, if they go that route which they should in my opinion.

Number 30, Buffalo Bills: Teven Jenkins, T Oklahoma State

Jenkins plays like a full grown man, that’s because he is. Jenkins was great on the Cowboys O line in 2020 only allowing 4 pressures on 211 snaps. This is something Buffalo needs help with because many of their O lineman are free agents and the Bills are up against the cap. Jenkins coming in also would be a much cheaper option at the tackle position.

Number 31, Kansas City Chiefs: Zaven Collins, LB Tusla

Collins is quite the explosive LB that can help the Chiefs out. Now I know the Chiefs are about as perfect as a team that you can get but they could use help at the linebacker position. He only has a couple of weak points and that is his quickness and he’s been known to get caught out of position which is why he isn’t higher on my draft.

Number 32, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jaelan Phillips, DE Miami

Closing out the first round is the champs. I have them adding Jaelan Phillips, a DE who actually retired from the game in 2018 due to concussions. But he’s back, he’s healthy and I believe he can contribute to a Bucs team that may lose some key front 7 players due to free agency. Phillips now created a lot of pressure in his final year at Miami and would work well with Todd Bowles defensive schemes.

New England Patriot Free Agent Wide Receiver Targets

By: Griff Bordignon

The start of the new league year is right around the corner. Which for many years, Patriots fans spent either celebrating yet another Lombardi trophy at One Patriot Place or in some instances, seeing how we can make our team better as we may have either lost in the AFC championship game or in the cases of 2007, 2011 and 2017 gotten so close to a Lombardi but ultimately falling short Patriots fans are now experiencing a weird purgatory, Pandora’s box, call it whatever you want but the Patriots franchise is at a crossroads after a 7-9 2020 season. The Patriots find themselves not only having to answer who will be the quarterback for 2021 and who will that person be throwing to. Now I know there’s Myers, Harry, Edelman, Byrd and even guys like Zuber and Olszewski, who got in on the receiving action. We all know that with a receiving core like that you can’t go far and you probably won’t win a Super Bowl. This is the reason why I’m writing this piece today. I’m here not only as a Football content creator, As a New England Patriots fan to tell you a few guys who I think can help with the receiving core and potentially turn around the 7-9 ship to maybe a more respectful 10-6.

Now I know with 60+ million to spend in FA(Free Agent), a lot of people would love to get a plethora of new wide receivers, but remember we’ve got a lot of in house deals to sign so here it goes. The first player is a pipe dream but man he would look great in a Patriots uniform running out to Crazy Train on Sundays, that man is Chris Godwin, yes Super Bowl Champion Chris Godwin, Godwins rookie deal he signed after being selected in the third round of the 2017 draft is done, Chris is now a free agent and can sign wherever he wants too. How interesting would it be if he went from Tom Brady’s current home to the house that Tom built. Godwin is due to get a hefty pay raise from his 4 year $3.284 Million rookie deal he signed after getting drafted. Now I know what you’re thinking, “oh why doesn’t he stay in Tampa with Tom”, but truth be told Tampa has quite a few Key free agents,  like Gronk, Suh, Barrett, David, AB and Fournette are all due to be paid and this means that Godwin may be the odd man out, especially since Tampa has players like Miller, Johnson and even Justin Watson to step up and get more prominent roles with the receiving core at a cheaper cost. Godwin in a Pats uniform does live rent free in my head, thanks for asking.

(Photo Taken Week 17 VS Atlanta)

Now it’s time to move onto some realistic and probably not crazy money wide receivers. I want to transition to Houston Texan’s Will Fuller V. Will has had flashes of excellence that was showcased from time to time but various injuries and a six game PED (Performance Enhancing Drugs) have kept Will from reaching his full potential. Now that PED suspension does mean he won’t be on the field September 12, yes I assume that’s when the Patriots will start the year. I think Will in a non toxic Houston situation is just what he needs, a career reset if you will. He’s only 26 and will be 27 in April so he’s still got some good prime years potentially ahead, obviously if he stays healthy and off of the juice. But in only 11 games in 2020 he had a career year with 53 catches for 879 yards and eight touchdowns, including an impressive Thanksgiving day game at Detroit, in which he caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a 41–25 victory over Detroit. Now Will  is a free agent and surely wants to get away from the rather toxic Jack Easterby and the Houston Texans, so where better to go than the New England Patriots.

(Photo Taken Week 4 VS Minnesota)

Now, to my most conversational opinion on a wide receiver New England can bring in, and I’ll give you a hint, Corvette Corvette. If you guessed John Sherman Smith-Schuster, more well known as Juju, you are correct. Now I know Juju comes in with a complicated 2020 that involves Fortnite, Tiktok dances on teams logos which one of those resulted in Vonn Bell lighting him up like a christmas tree in Cincinnati on Monday Night Football. A place like New England I think could bring the best out of Juju and by that I mean football and not TikTok. If he agrees to keep his off field antics far away from Gillette Stadium, I think he can work out in New England. After all Bill does have a history of making problematic players work in New England, so if Juju can buy into The Patriot Way and not dance on various team logos, I’m all for it.

(Photo Taken during 2020 Season)

I think four players count as a few right? So I’m here to give you guys one last wide receiver I would like to see the New England Patriots sign this offseason. Like Juju and Godwin, I’m staying within the 2017 NFL Draft, I’m going with Corey Davis, after being picked fifth overall, Corey took a while to get going down in NAshville. He didn’t have any touchdowns in his rookie year and only averaged 34 yards per game which for a top 5 pick isn’t something Titans executives were not expecting. Then in 2018 Davis had a much better year, catching four touchdowns and starting all 16 games whereas in 2017, he only started 9 games. Then fast forward to 2020, where Davis had a breakout year with 5 touchdowns and averaged 70 yards a game, including a week 13 game VS Cleveland where he caught eleven passes for 182 yards, both career highs, along with a touchdown reception in the 41–35 loss to the aforementioned Browns. Davis has a lot of potential but unlike all of the other receivers I mentioned Davis already has a career earnings just under 30 million, so expect him to say for a high contract as well.

(Photo Taken Week 2 2020)

Hopefully after reading my piece, you all get a better understanding of where not only the Patriots could go at the wide receiver position, but where I wouldn’t be mad if they signed even one of these players. By the way, if any of these names get mentioned by any NFL insider on twitter, expect myself to tweet a Bill Belicheck GIF. Now I also look forward to writing many more Patriot pieces and NFL pieces of course because god dammit, I love this game.
